Never Buy Purple Shampoo Again!

No purple shampoo? No problem. Keeping blonde hair brass and yellow-free is a tireless effort. The easiest way to keep it in shape is by using a toning shampoo or conditioner. There are tons of products on the market these days, but a lot of people complain that toning shampoos can dry out hair and are expensive to boot. A new product from OGX allows you to tone your hair using your own shampoo and conditioner! OGX Blonde Enhance + Purple Toning Drops (I may get a commission from this link) are concentrated purple drops that you mix into the product to create a custom toning product for hair. Just dispense your shampoo or conditioner into your hand, add 3 to 5 drops and mix! Use it just with shampoo, just conditioner or both! You can easily customize the level of toning. I found the less of drops you use, the more “blue” your mix will be. That works great for me because I prefer a blue shampoo to purple. If you don’t know what your color is, read my article on finding your undertones. ...

Clarisonic Mia worth the money

I have been reading all the buzz about Clarisonic Cleansing Systems and watching men wander aimlessly  around Sephora during holidays looking for them, so I decided to bite the bullet at get one. The original Clarisonic costs $195 and the Mia costs $149. The main difference is the Mia only has one speed and the original has four. The Mia also comes with the sensitive brush head only. You can buy any of the other brush heads for the Mia ( Normal, Delicate, and Deep pore Cleansing). The only one that does not work with it is the body brush head. The single speed and sensitive brush head work fine for me. I do want to try the deep pore head next time. The main benefit of the  Clarisonic cleansing system is the removal of dead skin. When we are younger, the dead skin seems to slough off by itself, but as we age, the skin needs a little help. I use my Mia about once a day, in the shower. I went on vacation for a week and didn't bring it with me and I could definitely see the...

Fall Beauty Preview Party at Neiman Marcus

Two great local bloggers, Christie and Laura hosted a Fall Beauty Preview at Neiman Marcus last week. The event was complete with pomegranate martinis, mini-cupcakes and a photo booth. While the ladies waited for a mini makeovers, they enjoyed passed appetizers and music from the in-house DJ.  Christie and Laura's picks were displayed throughout the beauty department, along with new picks for Fall.  I took this opportunity to try the much loved DiorSkin Air Flash Foundation. This spray on foundation contains mother of pearl pigments to diffuse light and even out skin. You can spray it straight on your face or spray it on a brush or sponge first (good idea if your don't want to get it on your clothes). The coverage is great. I didn't need concealer, and I always need it. Dior makeup artist Desiree completed my look with the rest of the Dior line.  My notables: 5 Couleurs Lift Eye Shadow , this shadow compact contains an eye primer with anti-aging properties fo...

Bargain Base

A great bargain foundation for around $9 I am not a big fan of liquid foundations, but as I age I find that I need a little more coverage. That being, said, I don't want to spend $30 or more on something I probably won't use everyday. I saw Sara mention L'oreal Paris' True Match Super Blendable  liquid makeup on KLG and Hoda. She claims that this is the foundation used by their makeup artists. I used L'oreal's True Match Blendable Compact makeup and didn't like it, possibly because it was to heavy. The key to L'oreal True Match is picking your shade. It is best to go to a drugstore and use their shade finder. You take this plastic swatch strip and place it over the under side of your wrist. Your shade is the color that fades away next your skin. You can also go on www.lorealparisusa.com and use their color match database. It will match your color based on your current favorite brand (limited). Once you find your shade, they will offer you a coupon. T...

Suave Salon Professionals products go the distance

Suave has recently launched a line of "professionals" products that mimic the expensive hair products out of the market. I tried two of them, and here is my review. Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo Spray, $3 Dry Shampoo has made its way into many of our haircare routines. It dissolves oil and revives hair if you don't have the time to wash it. It can also give a boost to roots and help disguise roots in between colorings.  The only negative has been the price. A small bottle of Oscar Blandi costs $11.00 and lasts for two applications, if you're lucky. This new dry shampoo by Suave does everything Blandi's does with out the high price. It also smells good, unlike the others I have tried (Oscar Blandi and Salon Garphix). I have been using this bottle a few times a week for about a month and there is still a lot left. Suave Touchable Finish Super Hold Hairspray, $3 Suave Professionals Touchable Finish Super Hold Hairspray is supposed to compare to Paul...

Undercover Concealer by Rain is the last concealer you will ever use

When you're younger, you use concealer to cover up blemishes and minor skin issues. As we age, concealer becomes more important for covering skin issues like dark circles, rosacea and uneven skin tone. Most women wear concealer that is too light for their complexion. How many times have you looked at old pictures of yourself or your friends and noticed white "rings" under their eyes. Undercover Concealer by Rain Cosmetics takes the guesswork out of finding your shade. The dual concealer comes in two shades, Concealed Weapon for light to medium skin tones and Master of Disguise for medium to dark skin tones. Each one has a darker color for covering up imperfections and a lighter color for under the eyes and highlighting. Apply it with a concealer brush for smooth coverage. Undercover Concealer in Concealed Weapon, $18 Undercover Concealer in Master of Disguise, $18 You can buy Rain Cosmetics at Elements at Aria, Mia Bella Salon and at other Las Vegas resorts....

Winky Lux Has Lip Glosses That Taste Like Applebee's Wings

National Chicken Wing Day and National Lipstick Day were both last week and Winky Lux has some leftovers. To celebrate days in the chicken wing and lipstick worlds, Applebee's partnered with Winky Lux on a collection of wing sauce-inspired lip glosses. The "Saucy Gloss" collection has four different shades, each based on an Applebee's wing sauce: Get Me Hot Buffalo: Coral with hot buffalo spice flavor. Sweet Chile Kiss: Deep red with golden chile. Be My Honey Pepper: Honey-spiced gloss with shimmering flecks with hints of BBQ, honey and pepper.  Honey BBQ-T: Maroon with sweet Asian wing sauce flavors.  Each gloss is $18 or you can get the whole set for $65.  Applebee's made a video with four models wearing the lip glosses to first dates at Applebee's encouraging singles to get out there after Covid. "Applebee’s is known for first dates and wings – which are one of our most popular menu items,” said Applebee’s Chief Marketing Officer Joel Yashinsky. “So...

The most expensive nail polish you won't regret buying

For those of us who don't get regular manicures, great nail polish is a must. I wandered upon my new favorite in Nordstrom while browsing Deborah Lippmann's products. "Happy Birthday" is the coolest polish I have ever seen. It is made up of red, yellow, blue, orange, green purple, silver and gold mini confetti in a clear base. It almost looks like someone threw a bunch of confetti and it landed on your nails, hence the name "Happy Birthday" .     I just had to have it. Even at $18. Now, you have to consider that this is a premium brand that contains no toluene, formaldehyde or DBP. It is sold out   online and Nordstrom says they can barely keep it in stock. The one negative - the sales lady told me it takes a while to get it off.  Deborah Lippmann is a manicurist that started mixing up polishes for her celebrity clients like Mariah Carey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cher.  She also has a line of hand and foot treatments, her "Rich Girl" hand and ...
